Give some, get some

Hey,

It's been a few weeks since I last wrote. Heads down in work — a couple of new projects just getting started, which is a good problem to have.

This week I finally came up for air long enough to write something. And — brace yourself — it's not about AI.

I've been thinking a lot about onboarding lately. Two different projects, same instinct from both teams: make it as fast as possible. Fewer screens, fewer questions, get people into the product.

I get it. But I think it's the wrong goal.

Onboarding is one of the few moments where you have someone's full attention and their genuine intent. They just signed up. They want to be there. Rushing through that moment isn't efficient — it's a missed opportunity.

The better framing: onboarding is a transaction. You're asking for time, information, and trust. In return, you owe them something better on the other side. When that exchange is clear and honest, people don't just tolerate the questions — they lean in.

I wrote about this in more detail, with a few examples from a project I'm particularly proud of.

On a completely different note — spring has finally arrived here in the Swedish countryside. The garden is waking up, the weekends are back outdoors, and Taylor is very pleased about all of it. There's something about getting your hands in the soil after a long winter that resets everything. Highly recommend 🌱

Talk soon, Anton

Five Three things (but all three really amazing)

  1. I've recently switched from mymind to Shiori
  2. The Joy of Building Slow
  3. My friend Joey Banks is giving you 20% off on his Level Up with Figma course. This is an opportunity not to be missed!
